Disputes in a problem nowadays has brought discord to the Muslim community and caused them to blame each other of being infidels, misleading and accused them of bidᶜah (innovation). Disputes itself does not lead to division, but taᶜsub (fanatic) against the issuing of a vision led to these disputes.
Among the disputes that led to the conflict among the Singaporean Muslim community is the issue of travelling to pay a visit at the tomb of Habib Nuh Al-Habshi, which are either opposed or supported by the community.
The specialty of this study lies in its content, because as far as the author's knowledge, this is the first study (regarding Habib Nuh Al-Habshi) that gathers proof of both sides of the argument and compiled it in the paper.
This study aims to bring closer the understanding of those who disagree in this issue and arouse the spirit of prioritizing unity and being respectful among the Muslim community. These can be done through disclosing the things that occur when visiting the tomb, far from the lies and slander that is thrown towards it.
The author will compile the view of the scholars and their understanding in this dispute such as travelling to visit, before the author try to provide an opinion that hopefully might unite the Muslim community in Singapore.
The author has used several methodologies in this thesis, such as descriptive approach that is being used to explain the condition of his tomb and what happens when people visit him. This approach is used together with inductive reasoning when gathering the opinions of other scholars as well as their views before using analytical and critical approach to discuss these opinions and will compile the data through visits to the public libraries with an intention to refer to several old books which had
explained regarding this matter before, until the author is able to derive a conclusion based on all the evidences that are provided.
This research has produce some results, chief among these include the issue on visiting the tomb of righteous people and what follows is not required nor prohibited in absolute although there are some conditions that needs to be fulfilled by the visitors. Each of the group are backed by support that they can follow from Islam’s viewpoint.
