Abstract
This research aims to illustrate the view of Sayyid Quṭb on the Qur’ānic methodology in human and civilization development in his tefsīr Fī Ẓilāl al-Qur’ān. The problem statement of this research is that the Qur’ānic methodology of human and civilization development as mentioned in the Fī Ẓilāl al-Qur’ān needs to be identified and highlighted. This study is important because it discusses the topic of human and civilization development in the light of the Qur’ān according to one of the prominent contemporary thinkers, which helps and assists man to perform the duties he is assigned with. This research has used the inductive and the analytical approaches. The findings of this research show that the main objective of the Qur’ān is to develop human and civilization, the success of the Qur’ānic approach depends on how is efficiently dealt with, the Qur’ānic process of the human and civilization development undergoes several stages and set up mechanisms to ensure the protection of human and civilization from which can interrupt the development process. Finally, Qur’ānic methodology is unique thanks to its characteristic namely: al-Rabbāniyyah (divinity), al-Tadarruj (gradation), al-Shumūl (comprehensiveness), and al-Tawāzun (balance, moderation), al-Dawām (permanency, continuity), and validity for all times and places, Wāqiʿiyyah (realism), al-Taysīr (softness, facilitation) and finally al-Thabāt wa al-Murūnah (stability and flexibility). These characteristics are fundamentally based on Fiṭra Human instinct.
